The Department of Health Policy and Management (instituut Beleid en Management Gezondheidszorg iBMG) was founded in 1982 within the Erasmus Medical School, and is now part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FGG). Within the FGG, our department enjoys a relatively independent status, but numerous links and collaborations with other departments of the Faculty and with the University Hospital exist.

In the Department of Health Policy and Management, research and educational activities are closely intertwined. Knowledge and experiences of various scientific disciplines such as economics, law, social medical sciences, organisational science and public administration are brought together and applied to the health care sector.

At present, some 130 persons (90 FTE) work in five sections in the Department. These sections are: Social Medical Sciences; Policy & Organisational Sciences; Health Law; Health Economics; Health Insurance.
