Short Bio

Ain Aaviksoo is Health Policy Progamme Coordinator in PRAXIS since September 2005. He obtained medical degree and certificate of general practitioner from the University of Tartu, Estonia (1998 & 1999 respectively), and graduated as MPH from Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA (2005). After working as a physician he moved to the Ministry of Social Affairs where he started as chief specialist and then holed the position of the Head of Public Health Department in 2001 - 2003.

Ain Aaviksoo's research interest lies in health system performance. He started his research as a medical student with cost-of-disease studies and using his senior administrative experience he is now working also on public policy analysis.

Ain Aaviksoo has also background in private sector and eHealth where he was principal designer and business-side project manager of nationwide internet-based real-time doctor's appointment booking system in 2004-2005 and initiated the establishment of new national professional medical journal (Lege Artis) in 2000. Ain Aaviksoo has published several op-ed articles on public health in Estonian daily newspapers and has given presentations on the reform experience of Estonia at international conferences.
